The Golden State Warriors have engaged Draymond Green in active trade discussions ahead of Thursday’s deadline, league sources told ESPN, putting his 14-year tenure with the franchise in question.
General manager Mike Dunleavy and owner Joe Lacob remain focused on pursuing a potential deal for Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Green’s name has surfaced in trade frameworks sent to the Milwaukee Bucks.
To satisfy salary-matching rules, Golden State would need to include either injured wing Jimmy Butler III, who is owed $56.8 million next season, or Green, set to make $27.6 million.
Green’s smaller contract, current health, and ability to contribute immediately have made him a more appealing trade piece for Milwaukee and other teams.
While the Phoenix Suns and Detroit Pistons have previously been linked to Green, his fit with those rosters remains uncertain.
The power forward downplayed the speculation when asked about his future Friday night.
“I’ve been here for 14 years,” he said. “If I’m traded, that’s part of the business. I ain’t losing no sleep.”
Although Steve Kerr and Stephen Curry have publicly expressed their desire for Green to retire with the Warriors, final decisions rest with Lacob and Dunleavy as the organization considers reshaping its roster.
A four-time champion, Green has been central to Golden State’s title runs in 2015, 2017, 2018, and 2022.
