Gui Santos addressed Golden State’s 108-83 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday, citing the challenges of a depleted roster. “We knew that would be a tough day coming from a back-to-back… they played strong and hard and they did it,” Santos said.
The Warriors struggled offensively, shooting 23.1% from three-point range and committing 23 turnovers. “I think we could do a better job on offense and moving the ball… we didn’t shoot well today,” Santos admitted.
Santos also reflected on his performance, posting 11 points and 10 rebounds in 29 minutes. “I feel like I play what the game gives to me… today was one of the days I could shoot a little bit more,” he said. He added, “There’s some wide open shots that I miss… I feel like I could do a better job. I had not a good turnovers numbers.”
The Timberwolves overcame a slow start, trailing 16-8 after a 13-0 opening run by Golden State. Bones Hyland sparked Minnesota’s comeback, and a 21-4 run late in the second quarter gave the home team a 53-38 halftime lead.
Santos commented on the difficulty of facing Minnesota’s Rudy Gobert. “He clogs up the whole paint… it makes it tough. We got to figure out different ways to keep him out of the paint,” he said. Gobert finished with 15 points and 17 rebounds, anchoring Minnesota’s dominance on both ends.
He also touched on the atmosphere in Minneapolis, where the city was still processing recent events. “I saw a lot of people on the street… I don’t know exactly what’s going on. I got to look for it to have more to talk about,” Santos said, acknowledging the weight of the environment.
Golden State’s top scorers included Quinten Post with 13 points and Brandin Podziemski with 12 points and seven rebounds. Despite Gui Santos’ double-double, the Warriors were unable to regain momentum after Minnesota’s halftime surge.
The Timberwolves improved to 28-19 with the win, keeping sixth place in the Western Conference. Golden State fell to 26-22 and remains eighth, set to continue their road trip in Utah on Wednesday. Minnesota will visit Dallas as they look to build on their decisive victory.
