Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown spoke candidly with Brandon “Scoop B” Robinson about his career, recent accolades, and the team’s surprising start to the 2025-26 season.
When asked if he feels recognized for his contributions, Brown said, “Do I feel like it? I don’t even care what people feel, you know what I mean? I’m just coming out like I feel that there’s been some disrespect at times because I play team basketball in part of winning groups and sometimes people take it for granted.”
Brown reflected on his growth and influences, highlighting Tracy McGrady as a key inspiration: “Growing up? T-Mac. Tracy McGrady. 6’8” point guard, can score the ball from anywhere but also can pick apart a defense. T-Mac was my guy. He was a mentor of mine and so, in the summertime I get to hang out with him and just talk.”
The Celtics’ Finals MVP addressed the reaction to his award, noting, “Yeah I kind of like… if there was ever a basketball matrix, I think I probably took the red pill versus other people who took the blue pill.”
Brown also weighed in on the preseason skepticism surrounding Boston’s 2025-26 campaign: “I have no idea, you know? ‘They’ said that we were only going to win 30-plus games and we’re halfway there through the season and we’re still counting… I’m grateful, I’m humble and I come out to have fun every night.”
Brown is currently averaging 29.8 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 3.7 assists across 42 games while shooting 48.7% from the field and 36.3% from three. His leadership has been instrumental in keeping Boston near the top of the Eastern Conference, despite predictions of a steep decline following Jayson Tatum’s Achilles injury.
The Celtics, 27-16, are firmly positioned in second place in the East, with Brown’s all-around performance driving Boston’s consistency and resilience.
