The Celtics were among the most aggressive teams in the pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo, reportedly presenting the Bucks with an offer centered around Jaylen Brown and two first-round draft picks.
Milwaukee ultimately chose a different path, agreeing to send Antetokounmpo to the Heat late Tuesday night.
With that pursuit now over, league observers believe Boston could continue exploring the trade market with Brown as a potential centerpiece in future discussions.
Brown’s value is arguably at its highest point after what many consider the strongest season of his career.
The All-Star wing is also eligible for a new contract extension this offseason, adding another layer to his situation.
Although the Celtics have consistently viewed Brown as a core piece of the franchise, this marks the second time in recent years that he has been included in a major superstar pursuit.
Boston previously offered Brown in trade discussions with Brooklyn when Kevin Durant became available in 2022.
Since then, Brown has further strengthened his résumé, highlighted by winning NBA Finals MVP during the Celtics’ championship run in 2024.
Even after missing out on Antetokounmpo, Boston could still have important decisions to make regarding Brown’s long-term future and role within the organization.
