Even though Daniel Gafford has frequently been cited as one of the Mavericks’ most attractive trade assets, Grant Afseth of DallasHoopsJournal.com reports that his market appeal may be slipping due to ongoing durability questions.

The 27-year-old has already missed 13 games this season after suffering a right ankle sprain on the opening day of training camp, and that same injury continues to linger.

According to Mike Curtis of The Dallas Morning News, Gafford is doubtful for Saturday’s rematch with the Utah Jazz.

One Eastern Conference scout suggested that teams are taking note of how the ankle issue has affected Gafford’s play and availability.

“If Gafford is healthy, he can help a team. I don’t think he’s been healthy all season,” the scout told Dallas Hoops Journal.

“That ankle has been a problem for months. It looks like he’s frequently playing through something. He doesn’t pop when you watch the Mavericks like he did last season.”

Curtis also notes that injuries could again thin Dallas’ frontcourt, as top overall pick Cooper Flagg is likewise listed as doubtful for Saturday’s game due to a left ankle sprain, adding another layer of concern as the team navigates both health and trade-deadline considerations.
