Virtus Bologna claimed a critical 80-72 road victory over Dubai Basketball on Thursday night at Coca-Cola Arena, strengthening its position in the crowded middle of the EuroLeague standings.
The Italian side improved to 11-11 with its third away win of the season, while Dubai slipped to 10-12 after suffering just its second home loss of the campaign.
The contest unfolded as a balanced battle through three quarters, with neither team able to establish consistent separation as scoring runs were quickly answered at both ends.
Dubai fed off the home crowd during multiple stretches, but Virtus stayed within striking distance by limiting second-chance points and controlling the tempo.
The decisive sequence arrived in the final minutes when Carsen Edwards delivered key baskets and the visitors tightened their defensive coverage, forcing turnovers that halted the hosts’ momentum.
Edwards finished with 21 points and four assists, providing the perimeter scoring Virtus needed late to close out the game.
The performance of the night belonged to Saliou Niang, who recorded 17 points and 17 rebounds, tying the club’s single-game rebounding record.
The 21-year-old forward also added three assists and one block, posting a career-high performance index rating of 36 while anchoring Virtus on both ends of the floor.
Derrick Alston Jr. contributed 12 points, while the Bologna-based squad finished with a 43-33 rebounding advantage that allowed it to manage possessions in the fourth quarter.
Dubai struggled to find rhythm down the stretch, committing 10 turnovers overall and converting just 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.
Aleksa Avramovic led the hosts with 17 points, while Davis Bertans added nine, but the supporting cast was unable to sustain offensive pressure late.
The result leaves Virtus level at .500 and within reach of the playoff positions, while Dubai remains in the hunt despite the setback.
Dubai Basketball will travel to face FC Barcelona next Tuesday, while Virtus Bologna returns home to host defending champion Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul next Wednesday.
