Former Hawks general manager Landry Fields has quickly landed on his feet, accepting a new role with Overtime Elite as president of league operations, according to Alex Schiffer of Front Office Sports.

Fields now steps into a leadership position within one of basketball’s most prominent alternative development pathways.

Launched in 2021, Overtime Elite is a nine-team league built around elite prospects ages 16 to 20 and has already produced several high-profile alumni, including recent NBA lottery selections such as Alex Sarr, Amen Thompson, and Ausar Thompson.

In his new role, Fields will oversee competition, player development, and day-to-day operations while helping guide the league’s long-term growth.

Overtime CEO Dan Porter believes Fields’ background makes him uniquely suited for the job.

“What stood out is how many angles he’s seen this game from,” Porter said. “He’s lived the player experience, understands how young athletes think and communicate, and he’s operated inside every major level of basketball.”

Porter pointed to Fields’ wide-ranging résumé, which includes playing at Stanford University, working in player development and scouting with the San Antonio Spurs, and managing both basketball and business operations with the Atlanta Hawks.

“He’s seen talent evaluation, development, branding, and front-office decision-making up close,” he said. “That blend is rare.”

According to Porter, Fields fills a gap that the league hadn’t previously addressed.

“We haven’t had someone who’s truly touched every layer – player, college, NBA, and executive,” he said. “That perspective is critical for where we want to take this league next.”
