Talk around Michael Porter Jr. has picked up, but there’s still no clear agreement league-wide on whether the Nets will actually move him before the deadline.
John Hollinger of The Athletic reported that one trusted source views the player as a lock to be traded, but other insiders have pushed back on that certainty.
In his latest Substack, Marc Stein wrote that while some around the league believe Brooklyn could look to sell high on Porter’s breakout season, he continues to hear resistance to the idea that the Nets want to trade him in-season.
As one executive put it, “There’s interest everywhere, but that doesn’t mean Brooklyn is in a rush.”
Speaking on YES Network, Michael Scotto echoed that sentiment, noting that contending teams have checked in on Porter’s availability.
Scotto cautioned that Brooklyn is also focused on improving next season and may view Porter as part of that plan.
“He’s young, productive, and playing at a high level,” he said, adding that expectations for a deal should be tempered despite the increased attention.
According to Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints, the Golden State Warriors and Milwaukee Bucks are among the teams that have inquired.
However, the Nets haven’t indicated they’re actively shopping Porter, with their starting point in talks reportedly being a valuable first-round pick – and even that may not guarantee a trade.
Scotto also mentioned Nic Claxton, who has drawn interest from teams like the Indiana Pacers and Warriors, but is still viewed internally as part of Brooklyn’s future.
