The Atlanta Hawks have decided to part ways with Landry Fields, relieving him of his duties as general manager.
In a move signaling a broader restructuring of their basketball leadership, the organization is initiating a search for a new President of Basketball Operations.
To facilitate this process, the Hawks have brought on Sportsology Group – a respected firm known for its strategic consulting and operational support in the sports industry – to help lead the search.
Taking the reins as general manager is Onsi Saleh, who has been promoted and will immediately assume responsibility for all day-to-day basketball operations.
The transition follows a disappointing campaign, where the Hawks closed the season with a 40-42 record, just shy of a .500 season, and failed to reach the playoffs for a second straight year.
Principal Owner Tony Ressler emphasized the importance of this offseason and the organization’s commitment to progress:
“Every offseason we evaluate how we operate and ways we can improve our organization. As we enter this pivotal offseason, we have several complex decisions ahead of us, and we are committed to providing the human and financial resources needed to ensure that we navigate these decisions with a high level of precision and foresight.”
He added that finding a seasoned executive to bring leadership and direction to the front office is a key focus:
“Adding an accomplished, senior-level leader to provide strategic direction and structure as well as partnering with Onsi and our talented front office is a top priority.”
Ressler also expressed gratitude to Fields for his time with the team, stating:
“I would genuinely like to thank Landry for his leadership during his time with us. Landry made our franchise better and left contributions that have positioned us for growth. I am grateful for his dedication and wish him success in his next endeavor.”
Saleh brings with him a wealth of experience from two of the NBA’s most successful franchises.
Before joining the Hawks in May 2024, he spent three seasons with the Golden State Warriors, including their 2022 championship run, where he most recently served as vice president of basketball strategy and team counsel.
Prior to that, he held a five-year tenure with the San Antonio Spurs, eventually rising to the position of director of strategy & process/chief of staff.
