Keldon Johnson scored 27 points and Victor Wembanyama added 16 points with 14 rebounds to guide the San Antonio Spurs to a 107-91 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday night at Frost Bank Center.
Luka Doncic recorded 38 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists for the Lakers in a losing effort, marking his 86th career regular-season triple-double, seventh all-time in NBA history.
San Antonio moved into second place in the Western Conference despite shooting just 4-of-25 from three-point range, with Johnson and Stephon Castle fueling an 11-4 third-quarter run to seize control.
Wembanyama, returning from a two-game absence with a hyperextended knee, registered his 15th double-double of the season, while De’Aaron Fox added 14 points and Castle finished with 15.
The Lakers were without LeBron James due to arthritis and sciatica, and also missing Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura to calf strains, limiting their rotation. Jake LaRavia contributed 16 points and Jaxson Hayes had 10, the only other Los Angeles players in double figures.
San Antonio maintained a steady lead throughout the fourth quarter, closing the game with efficient ball movement and strong defensive rotations that held the Lakers to 40 percent shooting.
Both teams were playing on the second night of a back-to-back, but San Antonio’s depth and Wembanyama’s presence inside helped them control rebounds 50-45 and limit turnovers.
The Spurs visit Boston on Saturday, while the Lakers host Milwaukee on Friday in hopes of regrouping after consecutive losses.
