The Detroit Pistons are taking a cautious approach as the trade deadline approaches, choosing to evaluate their young core rather than rush into major moves.

That group has helped the team post the best record in the Eastern Conference, giving the front office reason to stay patient.

One expected decision is converting guard Daniss Jenkins to a standard NBA contract. Now in his second year on a two-way deal, Jenkins has become a steady rotation player, averaging 7.5 points and 3.0 assists in 16.2 minutes per game.

Detroit currently lacks an open roster spot, but GM Trajan Langdon could create one through a trade before the February 5 deadline or by waiving Isaac Jones, whose non-guaranteed deal becomes fully guaranteed on January 7.

Jones has not been part of JB Bickerstaff’s rotation since being claimed off waivers in early November, making that route a realistic option.
