The Atlanta Hawks are reportedly “very intrigued” by the possibility of acquiring Anthony Davis from the Dallas Mavericks, according to NBA insider Chris Haynes on NBA on Prime Friday.
Haynes reported that Atlanta could offer an attractive package including young players, expiring contracts, and draft picks, potentially including last season’s No. 1 pick, Zaccharie Risacher.
Sources indicated the Mavericks would likely not request Trae Young in a trade, instead focusing on acquiring assets that provide flexibility while managing Davis’ contract timeline.
Davis, 32, is averaging 20.5 points, 10.9 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 1.3 steals in 16 games this season for Dallas, providing elite two-way production in under 30 minutes per game.
The Hawks, currently 15-17 and 10th in the Eastern Conference, have a roster built around Young’s playmaking, supported by Kristaps Porzingis, Onyeka Okongwu, and Zaccharie Risacher.
Davis has one guaranteed season plus a player option remaining on his $175 million contract, meaning any team acquiring him would need to consider an extension if they want to keep him beyond 2026-27.
Dallas, 12-10 and 11th in the Western Conference, could leverage Davis’ trade value to gain youth, draft capital, and expiring deals, aligning with both competitive and financial flexibility goals.
If a deal is completed, it could significantly impact Atlanta’s playoff outlook, giving the Hawks a top-tier frontcourt presence to complement Young while the Mavericks would accelerate roster retooling.
Both teams are expected to monitor trade talks closely as the deadline approaches, balancing short-term competitiveness with long-term strategy.
