Tyrese Maxey erupted for 30 points, including six 3-pointers, while VJ Edgecombe added 23 points as the Philadelphia 76ers (15-11) ended the New York Knicks’ (19-8) six-game winning streak with a 116-107 victory at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.
Philadelphia trailed by a single point entering the fourth quarter but outscored New York 28-20 down the stretch, with Maxey contributing 11 points while Jalen Brunson went scoreless on 0-for-5 shooting in the period. The 76ers’ bench and starters combined to maintain efficient shooting, hitting 45% from the field and 41% from three-point range.
Andre Drummond filled in for an absent Joel Embiid, recording 14 points, 13 rebounds, and 3-of-4 shooting from deep, giving the 76ers a reliable inside presence. Maxey and Edgecombe’s perimeter shooting stretched the Knicks’ defense and created space for teammates to score.
The Knicks received strong performances from Karl-Anthony Towns and Mikal Bridges, who scored 22 and 21 points respectively, while Mitchell Robinson posted season highs with 21 points and 16 rebounds, connecting on 7 of 8 free throws. However, turnovers and poor fourth-quarter shooting limited New York’s comeback attempts.
Philadelphia limited the Knicks to just one made three-pointer in the fourth quarter while maximizing transition and spacing opportunities. The 76ers improved to 15-11 overall and will host Dallas on Saturday.
The Knicks dropped to 19-8, including 13-2 at Madison Square Garden, and will host Miami on Sunday. Despite celebrating their recent NBA Cup victory before the game, New York struggled to maintain momentum against Philadelphia’s sharpshooting duo.
