Talks between the Suns and Raptors have taken place, but for now they appear to be more exploratory than anything close to a finished deal.
Gerald Bourguet of Suns After Dark reported that the two teams discussed a framework that would have sent center Nick Richards to Toronto in exchange for Ochai Agbaji and a second-round pick, though momentum never really built toward an agreement.
From Phoenix’s perspective, there was little urgency to move forward. The Suns are not actively trying to rush a trade, and league chatter suggests they were not particularly intrigued by Agbaji as a return piece.
In addition, the draft compensation on the table did not seem to move the needle. The second-round pick proposed by Toronto was viewed as lacking real value, which further cooled Phoenix’s interest.
While the specific pick discussed was not identified, the context makes the hesitation understandable. If the season were to end today, the Raptors’ own 2026 second-round pick would fall near the very end of the draft at No. 52.
Toronto also controls the Lakers’ 2026 second-rounder, which currently projects even later, likely somewhere between No. 56 and No. 58. Picks in that range often carry limited upside, especially for a team weighing whether to part with a rotation big.
