It’s widely expected around the league that Golden State Warriors guard Pat Spencer will see his two-way contract upgraded to a standard guaranteed deal, according to Marc Stein.
The move appears to be more a matter of timing than uncertainty, with clarity likely to come once Golden State moves past the trade deadline.
As of Sunday night, Spencer had appeared in 18 games, well within the 50-game limit allowed for two-way players during the regular season.
Stein notes that his role and contract situation should come into sharper focus soon, especially as the Warriors finalize their roster decisions for the stretch run.
On the court, Spencer has strengthened his case by delivering the best production of his career. In his third NBA season, he’s averaging 7.7 points, 3.3 assists, and 2.6 rebounds in just over 16 minutes per game.
His efficiency has stood out as well, with shooting splits of .457 from the field, .424 from three-point range, and .900 at the free-throw line, numbers that have made it increasingly difficult for Golden State to keep him on a non-guaranteed deal.
