New York Knicks forward Guerschon Yabusele recently opened up about his early experience with the team during an interview with Ouest France, reflecting candidly on the challenges that have come with a limited role in his first season in New York.
Adjusting to a new environment and expectations has not been easy, especially for a player who prides himself on competitiveness.
“I don’t want to lie to you, it’s very difficult,” Yabusele admitted, expressing how far the reality has been from what he envisioned when he joined the Knicks. “I’m a competitor first. It’s not a situation I thought (I would be in) coming here.”
The lack of consistent minutes has tested his patience and mindset, particularly after arriving with hopes of carving out a more defined spot in the rotation.
Yabusele also acknowledged that communication with the coaching staff, led by head coach Mike Brown, has been uneven at times.
He described those exchanges as “complicated,” though Brown has publicly emphasized that he intends to be patient as Yabusele continues adjusting to the system, the league, and his role within the team.
Despite the frustration, Yabusele has focused on maintaining a professional approach and staying prepared. Rather than letting disappointment take over, he has tried to channel his energy into being ready whenever an opportunity presents itself.
“I try to be ready whenever my name is called,” he said, underscoring his commitment to contributing in any way possible. “I try to control my impact on the court, no matter how much time I get.”
