Dubai Basketball delivered one of its most memorable EuroLeague nights on Friday, December 12, edging FC Bayern Munich 89–88 at Coca-Cola Arena after a costly late turnover flipped the game in the final seconds.
The hosts trailed by one with 3.2 seconds remaining when Kosta Kondic forced a turnover on Stefan Jovic as Bayern attempted to run out the clock, creating one last possession for the home side.
Justin Anderson inbounded the ball to McKinley Wright, who took one dribble to his right and rose for a contested jumper over Spencer Dinwiddie and Wenyen Gabriel, knocking down the game-winner to cap Dubai’s comeback.
Bayern still had 0.2 seconds to respond, but Vladimir Lucic’s desperation attempt was blocked by Anderson, his third rejection of the night, sealing a fifth straight home win at Coca-Cola Arena.
Wright’s performance defined the night, as the Dubai guard finished with 22 points, seven assists, and a game-high 28 PIR, leading all players in scoring, playmaking, and efficiency.
The former ABA League MVP joined Dubai from Buducnost VOLI Podgorica in the offseason and needed time to adjust to the EuroLeague level, but his recent stretch reflects growing comfort and control.
Since Round 10, Wright has consistently anchored Dubai’s offense, recording a PIR of 12 or more in six consecutive games while posting at least six assists in six of his last seven outings.
Against Bayern, Dubai overturned a fourth-quarter deficit by holding the visitors to 22 points in the final period while scoring 31 of its own, fueled by defensive pressure and timely execution.
Anderson and Kondic played central roles in that surge, combining defensive stops with poise in late-game situations despite Dubai missing seven rotation players due to injury.
The hosts were without Dzanan Musa, Aleksa Avramovic, Dwayne Bacon, Klemen Prepelic, Boogie Ellis, and long-term absentees Mam Jaiteh and Nate Mason, making the result even more significant.
Dubai improved to 7–8 with the win and remained perfect at Coca-Cola Arena this season, with its only “home” loss coming in a relocated game against Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv.
Bayern dropped to 5–10 despite strong contributions from Andreas Obst, who scored 21 points, and Dinwiddie, who added 14, but 15 team turnovers proved costly.
Dubai next hosts Maccabi Rapyd Tel Aviv before traveling to Anadolu Efes Istanbul, while Bayern heads into a double week with road games against LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne and AS Monaco.
