The Indiana Pacers have confirmed in a team press release that Garrison Mathews’ latest 10-day contract is now official.
Earlier in the day, Michael Scotto of HoopsHype reported that Indiana had secured another hardship exception and intended to use it to re-sign Garrison Mathews to a second 10-day deal.
Hardship exceptions are allowed when four or more players have missed at least three consecutive games and are expected to remain sidelined for two more weeks.
For Indiana, Tyrese Haliburton (Achilles), Obi Toppin (foot), Aaron Nesmith (knee), and Kam Jones (back) all qualify under that rule.
Mathews is in his seventh NBA season after going undrafted in 2019 following a strong college career at Lipscomb.
He has played for Washington, Houston, Atlanta, and now Indiana. The 29-year-old wing was with the Knicks on a non-guaranteed training camp contract earlier this fall before being waived.
Across 319 career games, Mathews has averaged 6.4 points and 1.7 rebounds in 17.3 minutes, shooting 38.0% from deep.
In his five Pacers appearances this season, he has averaged 9.2 minutes and has made 2 of 13 three-point attempts.
League rules allow only two 10-day deals per team, so Indiana would need to create a roster spot if it wants to keep Mathews beyond this contract.
Over the 10-day period, he’ll earn $165,197, while the Pacers will carry a cap hit of $131,970.
