Even though minority owner Mark Cuban has publicly denied the idea, several reporters continue to hear that the Mavericks will evaluate the trade market for Anthony Davis ahead of February’s deadline.
According to Marc Stein on Substack, Dallas is expected to listen to any incoming trade inquiries regarding the star big man in the coming months.
Whether the team actually moves him, Stein adds, will depend entirely on the strength of the offers they receive.
Davis’ extensive injury history – and the fact that he’s currently out with a calf strain – will surely factor into how the market shapes up.
Christian Clark of The Athletic reports something similar from his own conversations with team sources.
Those within the organization say the Mavericks intend to be “opportunistic in pursuing any scenario that strengthens the roster” around Cooper Flagg, the young cornerstone they are committed to building around.
At the same time, Clark’s sources stress that Dallas remains in “information-gathering mode,” still evaluating their long-term direction and determining what type of move, if any, makes sense for the franchise’s future.
