Karl-Anthony Towns appears to be finding his stride under new head coach Mike Brown, turning in a dominant performance as the New York Knicks defeated the Washington Wizards 119–102 on Monday night.
Towns powered the Knicks with 33 points, 13 rebounds, and five assists – his best performance of the young season – as he continues to adjust to Brown’s system.
The former All-Star had scored fewer than 20 points in three of New York’s first six games but looked far more comfortable and assertive on both ends of the floor against Washington.
“KAT was a monster,” Brown said after the game, via The New York Daily News’ Kristian Winfield.
“He was a monster on the glass, he was really good defensively, he was a monster inside, outside. He’s starting to feel and find his rhythm in what we’re trying to do.”
Towns echoed his coach’s perspective, emphasizing the team’s ongoing growth as it adapts to a new system and rotation. “Really, we’re all figuring it out,” Towns said.
“Getting better every day, understanding what our roles are and what we’ve got to do. It’s good, we’ve got two wins in a row but we’re obviously still a work in progress.”
Towns has played 11 seasons for the Timberwolves and Knicks. He has averaged 23.0 points, 11.1 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 652 regular-season games.
He was selected to play in 5 All-Star games, and has won the Rookie of the Year award.
