Several NBA teams are reportedly monitoring Ja Morant’s growing frustration with the Memphis Grizzlies, according to multiple league sources.
While no trade discussions are currently underway, franchises across the league are keeping a close eye on the situation in case the All-Star guard becomes available.
Among the teams believed to have potential interest are the Minnesota Timberwolves and Sacramento Kings, both of whom could pursue Morant if Memphis opens trade talks.
For Minnesota, the search for a long-term playmaker alongside Anthony Edwards has been ongoing.
Veteran Mike Conley is nearing the twilight of his career, and promising young guard Rob Dillingham isn’t yet ready to take on a full-time starting role.
However, the Timberwolves would face serious cap constraints, sitting just under the second apron, with limited draft assets and tradable young talent to offer.
The Kings, meanwhile, have developed a reputation for aggressively targeting star players when they hit the trade market.
Sacramento recently added Zach LaVine and previously acquired DeMar DeRozan in a sign-and-trade, showing a willingness to reshape its roster for proven talent.
The Kings could potentially build a package around one of their current guards and matching salary to pursue Morant.
On the other hand, the Houston Rockets are not expected to pursue the Grizzlies star.
Despite currently being without starting point guard Fred VanVleet, Houston’s payroll is already rising after handing out major extensions to Kevin Durant and other core players.
For now, Memphis has made no indication that Morant is available, but league observers are closely watching the relationship between the former Rookie of the Year and first-year head coach Tuomas Iisalo following recent signs of tension.
