The Dallas Mavericks announced on Friday that star forward Anthony Davis will miss at least the next two games after being diagnosed with a low-grade strain in his left calf.

The team confirmed that Davis underwent an MRI, which revealed the minor injury, and that he will be re-evaluated once the Mavericks return from their two-game road trip in Mexico City, where they’ll face the Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets.

The player sustained the injury during the first quarter of Wednesday’s matchup against the Indiana Pacers and did not return to the game.

Speaking about his condition, Davis said, “It is going to be day to day, but I feel better that is for sure,” suggesting optimism about a relatively quick recovery.

In addition to Davis’s absence, center Dereck Lively II is also set to miss the game against the Pistons, leaving the Mavericks thin in their frontcourt for the upcoming contests.
