Victor Wembanyama has been named the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Week for the season’s opening stretch, while Giannis Antetokounmpo earned the honor in the Eastern Conference.
It’s the second time in Wembanyama’s young career that he has received the weekly award, while Antetokounmpo extends his legacy with his 28th such honor.
Wembanyama was dominant in leading the San Antonio Spurs to a 3–0 start – their best opening since 2019.
Over those three games, the 21-year-old averaged 33.3 points, 13.3 rebounds, 6.0 blocks, 2.3 assists, and 1.7 steals in just over 33 minutes per game, shooting an impressive 56.9 percent from the field.
According to the NBA, he became the first player in league history to record over 100 points, 40 rebounds, and 15 blocks through his team’s first three games.
His all-around brilliance on both ends of the floor has fueled early talk of an MVP-caliber campaign in just his sophomore season.
In the Eastern Conference, Antetokounmpo powered the Milwaukee Bucks to a 2–1 record behind a string of monster performances.
The two-time MVP averaged 36.0 points – second in the league – along with 16.0 rebounds (the NBA’s top mark) and 7.0 assists per game while shooting an ultra-efficient 68.3 percent from the field.
Antetokounmpo’s week included a 37-point, 14-rebound, five-assist showing in Milwaukee’s season-opening win over the Washington Wizards, followed by 31 points, seven assists, and a league-high 20 rebounds in a victory over Toronto.
He closed out the week with a 40-point, 14-rebound, nine-assist effort against Cleveland – marking his 55th career 40-point game, tying him with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most in Bucks franchise history.
