Chris Paul addressed retirement speculation as he enters the 2025–26 NBA season, saying he hasn’t made a final decision about his future. “I’m going to keep playing it by ear and see what it looks like,” Paul told Marc J. Spears of Andscape.
The 40-year-old guard returned to the Los Angeles Clippers on a one-year, $3.6 million deal for his 21st NBA season. Paul noted that family considerations play a key role in his decision-making.
“I think about my family. And I’m not just saying my immediate family. I got a lot of cousins and family members who live back home in North Carolina that I don’t get to see,” he said. Paul emphasized that time is his most valuable resource.
Paul acknowledged the difficulty in balancing his career longevity with personal life. “The thing I always constantly think about is time. That’s the thing you can’t get back,” he added.
Despite contemplating the future, Paul remains focused on contributing to the Clippers this season. He’s averaged 2.0 points and 6.0 assists over two games, including eight assists in a 129–102 win over Phoenix on October 25.
Paul also reflected on his fortunate career, noting the ability to provide for his family. “I’ve been unbelievably blessed and fortunate to play as long as I’ve played. I’ve made a great living for me and my family,” he said.
The veteran point guard’s leadership and experience are expected to be key for a Clippers team navigating a competitive Western Conference. His presence continues to guide younger players while maintaining a high basketball IQ on both ends of the floor.
