Veteran point guard Chris Paul has reached an agreement with the Los Angeles Clippers on a one-year contract, signaling what is widely expected to be the final chapter of his illustrious NBA career.

The 12-time All-Star had drawn interest from several teams, including the Milwaukee Bucks and the Charlotte Hornets, but ultimately chose to return to Los Angeles – a city he still calls home.

In a June appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, Paul emphasized that playing his 21st and likely final NBA season close to his family was a top priority. With his family residing in Los Angeles, the Clippers became the ideal destination for both personal and professional reasons.

This marks a homecoming for Paul, who previously starred for the Clippers from the 2011-12 season through 2016-17.

During his first stint with the team, Paul was instrumental in ushering in the “Lob City” era, teaming up with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan to turn the Clippers into perennial playoff contenders.

Paul departed in the summer of 2017 via a sign-and-trade deal with the Houston Rockets. That move eventually led the Clippers to reshape their roster, paving the way for the acquisitions of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard in 2019.

In preparation for the upcoming season, the Clippers have continued to bolster their roster with experienced talent, adding Bradley Beal, John Collins, and Brook Lopez to the mix. These additions suggest a win-now mindset as the franchise eyes a deep playoff run.

Last season, Paul played for the San Antonio Spurs, appearing in all 82 regular-season games – a testament to his enduring durability and professionalism, even in the twilight of his career.

Returning to his former team, Chris Paul aims to finish his career with a strong final season, backed by a veteran roster and close to his family.
