Crvena Zvezda explored acquiring guard TJ Shorts from Panathinaikos amid injury struggles, Greek journalist Sotiris Vetakis reported on Skorakias. The club was seeking reinforcements after injuries to Isaiah Canaan, Devonte’ Graham, and Tyson Carter.

The Serbian team reportedly wanted Shorts on loan, but Panathinaikos rejected the proposal, viewing the 25-year-old as a core player. Despite his limited minutes, Shorts remains an important part of the Greek squad.

In the first four EuroLeague games of the 2025–26 season, Shorts has averaged just 3.2 points and 2.8 assists per contest. He has struggled for playing time behind Kendrick Nunn and Kostas Sloukas, both left-handed guards who require significant ball handling.

The presence of Jerian Grant, valued for his defensive impact, further limits Shorts’ minutes in coach Ergin Ataman’s rotation. This has frustrated fans and teammates alike, including close friend Chima Moneke.

Shorts previously starred in Paris, where he was a standout performer and had multiple options for his next team. His current situation in Athens has been described as puzzling, given his talent and potential contributions.

Crvena Zvezda’s interest highlights the club’s desire to strengthen its backcourt. Injuries have forced the team to make multiple roster adjustments this season, including bringing in Donatas Motiejunas to replace Jasiel Rivero.
