The Sacramento Kings dropped to 0-3 in preseason play on Wednesday after a loss to the Los Angeles Clippers. However, the defeat itself wasn’t the biggest concern.

The more troubling development came in the third quarter when star center Domantas Sabonis left the game midway through the period and did not return.

The team later announced that he had suffered a right hamstring issue, according to Jason Anderson of The Sacramento Bee.

This injury comes at a challenging time for Sacramento, as the team is already expected to be without forward Keegan Murray to start the regular season due to his recent thumb surgery.

With the frontcourt depth already thin, Sabonis’ status becomes even more crucial.

At this point, it remains unclear how serious the injury is or whether it could affect his availability for opening night. Head coach Doug Christie said he didn’t yet have a clear update on Sabonis.

“Listen, your star player goes down, you never want to see that, period,” Christie said, via Anderson.

“I can’t speculate on what it is. Hopefully it’s nothing. We have some time before the first game, but those are the things you just don’t want to see. But it’s part of what we do. It’s the same thing with Keegan. As unfortunate as it is, it’s just part of our game.”
