San Antonio extended its unbeaten preseason streak to 4-0 with a 124-108 victory over Indiana at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Monday. The Pacers dropped to 2-1.
The Spurs jumped to a 34-30 lead after the first quarter. Victor Wembanyama scored seven points with a dunk and free throw, while Stephon Castle added four on a layup and dunk.
Bennedict Mathurin countered for Indiana with 12 points, including two threes. Pascal Siakam tallied two points in limited minutes.
San Antonio pushed ahead 69-66 at halftime after outscoring the Pacers 35-36 in the second. Wembanyama reached 15 points by the break with a three and layup.
Harrison Barnes contributed three points. No major absences marked either roster.
The third quarter saw the Spurs widen the gap with a 35-29 edge for a 104-95 lead. Wembanyama erupted for 27 points total, adding 12 in the frame with a dunk and free throws.
Mathurin led Indiana with 31 points on 11-of-12 shooting. Andrew Nembhard dished eight assists.
Indiana mounted a 13-point fourth-quarter rally but fell short at 124-108. Mathurin finished with 31 points and four rebounds.
Wembanyama ended with 27 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists in 25 minutes. Castle tallied 14 points and three steals.
Julian Champagnie added 12 points with three threes. For the Pacers, Siakam scored 17 points with three assists.
Nesmith drained three threes for nine points. San Antonio generated 50 paint points to Indiana’s 28.
The Spurs turned 24 turnovers into 19 points.
