The Cleveland Cavaliers plan to bring back free agent guard Darius Brown II, according to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, who reports via Twitter that “the Cavaliers intend to sign free agent guard Darius Brown II.”

In a follow-up post, Fedor explained the timing of the move, writing that “Cleveland will likely sign Brown after the team’s third preseason game against Boston on Sunday.”

He added that Brown is “expected to be active for next Tuesday’s preseason finale vs. Detroit.”

The details of the agreement haven’t been disclosed, but the expectation is that Brown will be signed to a non-guaranteed training camp contract that includes Exhibit 10 language.

That structure would make it possible for the Cavs to waive him before the regular season begins while still steering him to their G League team, the Cleveland Charge. If he spends at least 60 days there, Brown could earn a bonus of up to $85,300.

Brown, a 6’2” point guard out of Utah State, went undrafted in 2024 but had a previous stint with Cleveland. Last fall, he signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the Cavs, was waived shortly after, and then spent the 2024/25 season entirely in the G League.

In 44 appearances for the Charge, the 26-year-old averaged 7.8 points, 4.8 assists, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.7 steals across 25.1 minutes per game.

The Cavaliers currently have the full allotment of 21 players under contract for the offseason. As a result, the team will need to release someone from the roster in order to make room for Brown’s signing.
