After serving as a lead assistant coach for four years, Miami Heat head tactician Erik Spoelstra might take the helm of the USA Basketball National Team, according to Shams Charania.

Spoelstra succeeds Steve Kerr for the next World Cup and the 2028 Summer Olympics.

He spent 17 years as head coach with the Miami Heat, the only franchise he coached, which is also one of the longest active tenures of coaches in the league.

Before being a head coach, he spent four years as a video coordinator and nine years as an assistant coach and director of scouting.

With such immense experience, Spoelstra already had six NBA finals appearances and two NBA championships.

He is now among the top five active coaches in Finals appearances, tied with Gregg Popovich and Steve Kerr.
