Kevin Durant’s first game in a Houston Rockets uniform felt familiar to him — and that was exactly the point.

After scoring 20 points in Houston’s 140–127 preseason win over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday, Durant described the experience as “normal,” saying he felt comfortable from the moment he arrived in Houston several weeks ago.

“It felt normal,” Durant said postgame. “I felt right at home since I came here three, four weeks ago. The guys welcomed me pretty smoothly. The coaching staff too. It just felt normal. It didn’t feel any different.”

The 36-year-old forward showed early chemistry with center Alperen Sengun, who finished with 13 points and 13 assists. Durant highlighted how the young big man’s versatility creates opportunities for everyone on the floor.

“When you’ve got your five-man that can handle at the top of the key, the spacing just opens up so much,” Durant explained. “It makes it unpredictable because he can iso, set a screen, hand it off, or we can screen for him. It throws the defense off.”

Durant also spoke about finding rhythm with his new teammates, emphasizing patience over forcing shots. “It’s always a balance every game trying to figure out where I can inject myself into the offense,” he said. “I just stay patient and know if those shots come around again, I’ll knock them down.”

Houston’s offense looked sharp, recording 70 points in the paint and forcing 20 turnovers. Amen Thompson impressed with 19 points and six assists, while Jabari Smith Jr. contributed 18 points and three three-pointers.

Durant was encouraged by the team’s pace and offensive flow. “I mean, we had 140 — that says enough right there,” he said. “We were able to get layup after layup knowing we can play fast after a make or miss. That’s an emphasis for us.”

He also praised Utah rookie Ace Bailey, who led all scorers with 25 points. “Dynamic player,” Durant said. “He’s going to be a hell of a player. I love the coaching staff he’s with in Utah. I’m expecting a big year from him.”
