Quentin Grimes will be staying with the Philadelphia 76ers for at least one more season after signing his one-year qualifying offer worth $8.7 million.
By accepting the offer, Grimes sets himself up to become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2026. Another key detail of the agreement is that he cannot be traded without giving his consent, giving him more control over his future.
Talks between the player and the Sixers on a longer-term extension reportedly never gained much traction.
“Grimes and the Sixers never appeared particularly close on a deal,” the report notes, suggesting that both sides viewed the qualifying offer as the most straightforward path forward.
For Philadelphia, bringing Grimes back at least ensures continuity in the backcourt as the team navigates injuries and roster uncertainty heading into the new season.
For Grimes, it’s a bet on himself – the opportunity to prove his value over the next year and re-enter the market with the freedom to choose his next destination in 2026.
