Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. shared his thoughts on relationships during an appearance on Respectfully The Justin Laboy Show. He described his ideal woman as someone balancing independence with traditional family values.
Porter emphasized that he wants a woman who can be strong and self-sufficient but also values home and family life. “I don’t want a woman that acts like a dude,” he said, via Fadeaway World, clarifying his perspective on gender roles in a relationship.
He cited his mother as a key influence, noting her accomplishments as a high-scoring basketball player in Iowa and her eventual choice to focus on homeschooling her children. “She was like playing overseas… and then she ended up getting married and had the kid,” Porter explained.
“And at first, she always thought that she wanted to just be like, a woman who always had her thing going. But once she had some kids, then she was like, oh, I want to stay at the crib, be a homeschool mom,” he continued.
“I don’t want to say the word submissive because that gets a bad connotation, but like, a woman that acts like a woman,” Porter explained.
According to Porter, shared beliefs and morals are equally important in a partner. “They got to share some type of similarity in beliefs and morals and like, faith in God,” he added.
Porter joined the Nets on July 8, in a trade that sent Cameron Johnson to the Denver Nuggets and included a 2032 first-round draft pick. His arrival in Brooklyn marks a new chapter in both his career and personal life.
Over his NBA career, Porter has averaged 16.2 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game across 345 regular-season appearances. He has been a consistent contributor for Denver, including averaging 18.2 points and seven rebounds per game during the 2024–25 season.
The forward has also made significant playoff contributions, including posting 17.4 points and six rebounds per game during the 2021 postseason.
