The Denver Nuggets and Brooklyn Nets have finalized a significant trade, with Denver sending forward Michael Porter Jr. and an unprotected 2032 first-round pick to Brooklyn in exchange for wing Cam Johnson.

The deal marks a major cap restructuring for the Nuggets while also giving the Nets a higher-upside offensive talent under long-term control.

Both Porter and Johnson had been involved in trade speculation for much of the 2024-25 season, as their respective teams weighed roster balance and financial flexibility.

Porter, who signed a five-year, $179 million extension with Denver in 2021, is under contract through the 2026-27 season.

He carries a much larger salary than Johnson, whose cap hit for the 2025-26 season is a more modest $23 million compared to Porter’s $38.3 million.

Johnson, who inked a four-year, $94.5 million deal with Brooklyn last summer, gives the Nuggets a cost-controlled 3-and-D wing who fits well alongside Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray.

By offloading Porter’s contract in the deal, Denver not only gains financial flexibility but also unlocks the ability to utilize most of their $14.1 million non-taxpayer midlevel exception.

That added space could allow the Nuggets to strengthen their depth and retool around their core while maintaining cap discipline.

Meanwhile, Brooklyn takes a long-term swing on Porter, betting on his offensive upside and size on the wing, while also adding another future first-round asset to their growing collection of draft capital.
