Kevin Durant is set to play a central role in Paris Saint-Germain’s entry into the NBA’s upcoming European league, according to Evan Sidery.

The Houston Rockets forward, who became a minority stakeholder in PSG earlier this year, will have significant influence as the French club prepares to pay a $500 million expansion fee.

The NBA, in partnership with FIBA Europe, is advancing plans to launch a Europe-based professional league. Commissioner Adam Silver has suggested a debut as early as 2027 or 2028, with Paris and London identified as priority markets.

Durant’s involvement strengthens PSG’s position as a potential flagship franchise. His investment through Boardroom, the platform he co-founded with Rich Kleiman, extends his relationship with Qatar Sports Investments, PSG’s ownership group.

PSG confirmed interest in joining the league earlier this year, signaling a landmark moment for European basketball. Options under discussion include acquiring Paris Basketball or forming a new independent franchise carrying the PSG brand.

The financial scope of the project is considerable, with permanent team slots valued at more than $500 million each. Analysts project the league could generate $3 billion annually across European and Middle Eastern markets.

Durant’s role is expected to go beyond ownership. His global profile, Olympic success in Paris, and ties to the city make him a potential ambassador for the NBA’s European expansion.

The NBA envisions a 16-team competition blending permanent franchises with qualifying clubs. EuroLeague powers such as Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, and Fenerbahce have been mentioned as possible participants.

PSG’s move follows its historic treble in soccer, capped by a Champions League victory. A successful basketball launch would extend its influence into another major sport, aided by Durant’s leadership.

The European league represents the NBA’s most ambitious international project to date. With Durant aligned alongside QSI and PSG, its path toward becoming a global reality has gained momentum.
