New York Knicks guard Miles McBride expects a significant change in the team’s offensive approach under new head coach Mike Brown. McBride noted that the offense will feature “a lot more player movement, ball movement,” contrasting it with last season’s tendency to rely on isolation plays.
McBride, who averaged 9.5 points and 2.9 assists per game in the 2024–25 season, emphasized that his comments were not a critique of former coach Tom Thibodeau. He praised Thibodeau for his leadership during his five-year tenure with the team.
The Knicks officially parted ways with Thibodeau on June 3 after five seasons, and hired Brown on July 7. Brown, a former NBA Coach of the Year candidate, is expected to bring a more dynamic and fluid style of offense to the Madison Square Garden squad.
The guard’s comments also highlight a strategic adjustment for players like McBride, Tyler Kolek, and Kevin McCullar Jr., who will be tasked with facilitating ball movement and creating open shots. “Last year I thought at times we got stagnant,” McBride explained.
The Knicks are aiming to improve on their 2024–25 campaign, which saw them advance to the Eastern Conference Finals before losing to the Indiana Pacers. The team also added depth in the draft by selecting Mohamed Diawara and securing Luka Mitrovic via a draft-day trade.
Brown’s coaching staff, including Charles Allen, Rick Brunson, and Maurice Cheeks, will oversee the transition and ensure players adapt to the new system ahead of the regular season.
