Johnny Wilkes has released a new video titled “J. Wilkes vs LA Clippers”, claiming he is owed $2.5 million for helping bring Kawhi Leonard to Los Angeles in 2019. Wilkes names multiple prominent figures, including Clippers consultant Jerry West, Magic Johnson, and Al Haymon, who he says were aware of the arrangement.

In the video, Wilkes details a decades-long network of relationships and conversations, citing his close friend Uncle Dennis and sports analyst Jim Gray as witnesses to the recruitment process.

He also claims promises included a job title, courtside seats, a skybox, and involvement in marketing and coaching activities. The Clippers have denied Wilkes’ allegations.

Meanwhile the NBA continues its investigation into Leonard’s endorsement deal with Aspiration. Sources told Jake Fischer that the probe, led by Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, is unlikely to conclude before the All-Star Game.

The investigation is examining whether Leonard’s agreement with Aspiration violated salary cap rules. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has emphasized due process as financial documents and transactions are reviewed.

According to The Athletic’s John Hollinger, the league could impose severe penalties if violations are confirmed. These could include fines up to $7.5 million for the Clippers, $350,000 for Leonard, suspensions, forfeiture of draft picks, or even voiding Leonard’s contract, which is valued at over $50 million for next season.

A contract voiding would give the Clippers unexpected financial flexibility for free agency, while lesser penalties could involve suspending team officials or requiring Leonard to return endorsement funds. League insiders believe the harshest measures would only occur if direct evidence of cap circumvention emerges.

Wilkes’ video provides an insider perspective on the informal networks that influence major NBA decisions, highlighting private conversations and promises he says led to Leonard’s move to Los Angeles.
