Jordan Poole officially joins the New Orleans Pelicans after a three-team trade this summer that also sent Saddiq Bey and the draft rights to Micah Peavy to the franchise. Poole said he was informed of the move by his agent and quickly connected with Pelicans executive Joe Dumars.
Poole noted he already had familiarity with the team’s roster, including Trey Alexander. “We’ve known each other a bit and have some mutual friends, so it was easy to start building chemistry this summer,” he said.
The 26-year-old guard described his previous experiences with the Golden State Warriors and Washington Wizards as instrumental in developing leadership skills. “Playing with younger guys and veterans taught me how to handle the highs and lows of a season,” Poole said.
He highlighted his ability to create for teammates and score efficiently, stressing the importance of bringing a winning mentality to a young roster. “We want to win, be competitive, and make the playoffs. That starts with the everyday work, details, recovery, and extra shots in film,” he explained.
Poole also shared early impressions of New Orleans, praising the city’s welcoming community. “The locals really want you to experience the best parts of the city. It’s been dope,” he said.
He emphasized his work ethic, describing a consistent offseason routine that includes on-court skill development, film study, and strength training. “Playing at the highest level is a game of inches, and the details matter,” he added.
Poole said building chemistry with key teammates, particularly Zion Williamson, is a priority. “Zion creates so much gravity, but he’s also a great passer. It’s about spacing the floor, creating lanes, and knowing when to touch the ball,” he said.
He praised veteran presence in the locker room, including Kevon Looney. “He’s extremely professional, grounded, and helps younger guys adjust to the NBA. That stability is huge for our back line,” Poole noted.
With Dejounte Murray in rehab, Poole will serve as a primary ball handler while still playing off the ball in transition. “I feel extremely dangerous when I can get out before the defense is set and create for my teammates,” he said.
Poole emphasized the competitive culture in the Pelicans locker room. “We’ve got a lot of guys who love the game and are naturally motivated. That’s a formula for success,” he said.
The former Warriors standout is focused on helping the Pelicans establish a winning environment. “I’m excited to be invested with the team, the community, and the crowd. My goal is to bring positive energy and compete every night in a tough Western Conference,” Poole added.
