DeMar DeRozan could soon join elite company in one of the league’s most unique statistical categories.

According to HoopsHype, if DeRozan records 981 points in losses during the 2025–26 season, he will move past Elvin Hayes and Kobe Bryant for second all-time in points scored in defeats. Only LeBron James would remain ahead of him on the list.

The 36-year-old forward enters his 17th season after averaging 22.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.4 assists with the Sacramento Kings in 2024–25. He has been one of the league’s most consistent scorers since his debut in 2009 with the Toronto Raptors.

While the category highlights production in losing efforts, it underscores DeRozan’s longevity and ability to deliver offense regardless of circumstance. He has played in 1,187 career regular-season games, producing 21.3 points per contest on 46.9 percent shooting.

Sacramento finished the 2024–25 campaign at 39–43 and missed the postseason after falling to the Dallas Mavericks in the Play-In Tournament. With Doug Christie now the full-time head coach, the Kings are attempting to rebound while leaning on DeRozan, Zach LaVine, and Domantas Sabonis as offensive pillars.

The veteran’s path toward LeBron’s mark is realistic given his scoring role. If the Kings struggle again, DeRozan’s production in losses could climb quickly, pushing him into rare statistical territory.

Throughout his career, DeRozan has already passed multiple Hall of Famers on all-time scoring lists.
