Patrick Beverley says his career could be nearing its end if he does not land a roster spot soon.
On his Pat Bev Podcast, the 37-year-old guard admitted that retirement is on the table. “If I don’t play basketball soon, I’m going to retire. It’s the truth,” Beverley said.
Beverley has been a free agent since February, when he parted ways with Hapoel Tel Aviv. He signed with the club in July 2024 but left midway through the season following a suspension.
Two weeks ago, ESPN’s Olgun Uluc reported via NBL.com.au that the Perth Wildcats passed on the opportunity to sign Beverley as an import guard. Despite his NBA résumé, the Australian club elected not to pursue discussions.
That decision highlighted the challenge Beverley now faces as he seeks another chance to extend his career. Known for his defense and intensity, he built a reputation as one of the league’s toughest perimeter defenders over 12 NBA seasons.
Since debuting with the Houston Rockets in 2013, Beverley has appeared in more than 650 NBA games. He made the All-Defensive First Team in 2017 and twice earned Second Team selections.
Along the way, he logged stints with the Clippers, Timberwolves, Lakers, Bulls, 76ers, and Bucks. Across his career, he averaged 8.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game while often guarding the opposing team’s top scorer.
His departure from the NBA led him to Israel, but that stop ended abruptly after just a few months. Now, with no current offers on the table, Beverley’s comments indicate he may not wait much longer before moving on from the game.
For now, Beverley remains open to another opportunity but made it clear that his future hinges on how quickly a deal comes together.
