The Perth Wildcats were given the chance to add longtime NBA guard Patrick Beverley to their roster, but the club chose not to pursue the opportunity, according to ESPN’s Olgun Uluc, via NBL.com.au.
Uluc reported that the Wildcats were offered the 12-year NBA veteran last month as they explored options for an import point guard. Despite Beverley’s résumé, the team decided not to engage in talks.
Beverley has played more than 650 NBA games since debuting with the Houston Rockets in 2013. Known for his defense and intensity, he was named to the NBA All-Defensive First Team in 2017 and earned two Second Team selections.
Most recently, the 37-year-old played for Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel. He joined the club in July 2024 but parted ways in February 2025 following a suspension. Before that stint, Beverley appeared for the Bucks, 76ers, Bulls, and Lakers in the NBA.
Beverley’s potential move to Australia drew interest among fans given his reputation as one of the league’s toughest competitors during his NBA career. However, the Wildcats’ decision signals they may be prioritizing younger or more long-term options at the point guard spot.
Beverley, who averaged 8.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists across his NBA career, remains a free agent as he considers his next step.
