The Charlotte Hornets have waived forward DaQuan Jeffries after just one season with the franchise, according to NBA insider Michael Scotto.
Jeffries appeared in 47 games during the 2024-25 campaign, starting 20 of them. He averaged 6.7 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.1 assists in 22.8 minutes per game.
Charlotte originally acquired Jeffries in October 2024 through a three-team trade involving the New York Knicks and Minnesota Timberwolves. That deal also brought in Charlie Brown Jr., Duane Washington Jr., and draft compensation, while Karl-Anthony Towns was sent to New York.
Over six NBA seasons, Jeffries has played for five teams, including Sacramento, Houston, Memphis, New York, and Charlotte. His career averages stand at 4.6 points and 2.1 rebounds across 111 regular-season games.
The 28-year-old contributed during the Hornets’ rebuilding stretch but was not projected as part of the team’s long-term plans. His departure opens up flexibility for a roster that has been retooled through recent drafts and trades.
The Hornets added three rookies in the 2025 NBA Draft: Duke products Kon Knueppel and Sion James, along with Creighton center Ryan Kalkbrenner. The organization is also banking on the return of LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller from injuries to strengthen its core.
Head coach Charles Lee now has a mix of veterans and young talent, with Collin Sexton, Spencer Dinwiddie, and Miles Bridges expected to carry much of the offensive load.
