The Charlotte Hornets have added veteran guard Spencer Dinwiddie on a one-year contract, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.

Last season, Dinwiddie started 30 games for the Dallas Mavericks, averaging 11 points and 4.4 assists per game. His ability to score and distribute the ball fits well with Charlotte’s young core.

The Hornets struggled in the 2024-25 season, finishing 19-63 and last in the Eastern Conference. Adding an experienced guard like Dinwiddie aims to improve their offensive consistency and overall team performance.

Dinwiddie’s career has spanned several teams, including Detroit, Brooklyn, Washington, Dallas, and the Lakers. He has career averages of 13 points and 5.1 assists per game, with a career three-point shooting percentage of 33.3%.

In the playoffs, Dinwiddie has also been productive, notably averaging 16.5 points and 6.5 assists in the 2023 postseason with Brooklyn.

Charlotte’s young backcourt, led by rookies and second-year players, will gain from Dinwiddie’s playmaking and leadership. The Hornets also have recent high draft picks like Kon Knueppel and Sion James, whose development could be supported by Dinwiddie’s veteran presence.
