After Patrick Beverly took direct aim at Trae Young, questioning the leadership and postseason record in his last episode of the Pat Bev Pod, Trae Young answered with his achievements and what he can do for the team.
Beverly said Young had a bad record during the playoffs due to his leadership.
“I don’t think he’s won enough to even speak to me,” Beverley said. “He’s been to the playoffs three times. I’ve been to the playoffs nine times. My first seven years, I didn’t miss the playoffs at all.”
He also claimed that players around the league have voiced doubts about not playing with Young because of not being a good teammate.
“I’ve talked to people who played in Atlanta. They don’t wanna play there. Why? They don’t think he’s a good leader. They don’t think he’s a good teammate,” Beverley added.
Young went off on Beverly after hearing these statements, asking how he played with stars like LeBron James, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Anthony Edwards, Kawhi Leonard, and James Harden, yet only made one Conference Finals.
The Atlanta Hawks star proved his value on the floor, comparing himself to Beverly, saying that he never carried himself reaching the postseason, as superstars always surrounded him.
“What have you won? You were 24 entering your first year in the NBA, you don’t know what uncomfortable is,” Young said via FromThePoint. “I win play-in games on the road and I’m ready to get to the playoffs. You win play-in games at home and you standing on the scores table acting like it’s a championship.”
“I know you were labeled as a tough defender, a great defender, and the accolades say that you were. But I promise you, anytime you was on the court with me, I was never scared of you. I was never scared of Patty Bev.”
The three-time All-Star has a career average of 25.3 points, 9.8 assists, and 3.5 boards, while Beverly had 8.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.4 assists.
