Two Portland legends are back with the franchise. Brian Grant and Terry Porter have joined the Trail Blazers’ basketball operations department, according to The Oregonian/OregonLive.
General manager Joe Cronin added both former players in separate roles to strengthen the team’s rebuilding efforts. Porter has been hired as a scout, while Grant is serving as a basketball liaison.
Grant began his role in May, working with players during draft preparation and joining the Blazers at Summer League in Las Vegas. His responsibilities focus on mentorship, offering guidance on basketball and life skills in a non-coaching capacity.
Porter, who starred as the Blazers’ point guard during their Finals runs in 1990 and 1992, will provide scouting expertise. His decades of NBA experience are expected to help Portland’s front office evaluate talent and improve roster decisions.
Grant, a fan favorite during his time with Portland from 1997 to 2000, is tasked with building strong relationships with current players. Team insiders believe his perspective as a former player can create an important bridge between the locker room and management.
The hires come as the Blazers continue a multiyear rebuild centered on young talent like Scoot Henderson, Shaedon Sharpe, and Donovan Clingan. With Damian Lillard sidelined due to Achilles injury, Portland is relying heavily on its next generation of players.
The Trail Blazers enter the 2025–26 season with a roster featuring new draft pick Cedric Coward and several emerging prospects. The additions of Grant and Porter to the staff highlight the organization’s effort to strengthen its foundation during the rebuild.
