The San Antonio Spurs have waived forward Osayi Osifo, the team confirmed, just days after signing him to a training camp deal.
HoopsHype first reported the roster move, which comes ahead of final cuts for the 2025–26 NBA season. Osifo, 25, was brought in to compete for a spot in the Spurs’ frontcourt rotation.
The 6-foot-8 South African had impressed in both the G League and Canadian Elite Basketball League before landing in San Antonio. He played 39 games for the Austin Spurs last season, averaging 6.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks while shooting 64.6 percent from the field.
In May 2025, Osifo joined the Calgary Surge of the CEBL, becoming the franchise’s first South African player. He later suited up for San Antonio’s Summer League roster before earning his training camp contract.
Despite showing energy on the glass and physicality in the paint, Osifo faced steep competition for minutes in a crowded Spurs frontcourt. With Victor Wembanyama, Jeremy Sochan, and Keldon Johnson already established, the roster offered little room for another developmental big.
Born in Bedworth Park, South Africa, and raised in McKinney, Texas, Osifo played at Eastern Florida State College before transferring to Florida and later Jacksonville University. He led the Dolphins in rebounding as a senior, building his reputation as a hard-nosed forward.
Waiving Osifo opens flexibility for the Spurs to finalize their roster with a mix of veterans, rookies, and two-way players ahead of the regular season.
