The San Antonio Spurs signed South African forward Osayi Osifo, adding depth to their frontcourt for the upcoming 2025–26 NBA season, according to HoopsHype. Osifo, 6-foot-8, joins the Spurs after a strong showing in the G League and Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL).
Born on April 6, 2000, in Bedworth Park, South Africa, Osifo grew up in McKinney, Texas, and played high school basketball at McKinney Boyd. He later competed at Eastern Florida State College, the University of Florida, and Jacksonville University, where he led the Dolphins in rebounding as a senior.
Osifo began his professional career with the Austin Spurs in the 2024–25 G League season, appearing in 39 games with 25 starts. He averaged 6.1 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game, shooting 64.6% from the field.
In May 2025, Osifo joined the Calgary Surge of the CEBL, becoming the first South African to play for the team. He later participated in the NBA Summer League with the Spurs before signing his training camp deal.
Osifo is known for his energy, rebounding, and physical play, attributes that should complement San Antonio’s roster, which includes stars like Victor Wembanyama, Jeremy Sochan, and Keldon Johnson. His addition gives the Spurs more versatility at power forward and center positions.
The 2025–26 season marks a transition for the Spurs, with Mitch Johnson taking over as head coach after Gregg Popovich stepped down in May. The team also added two first-round picks in the 2025 NBA Draft, bringing fresh talent alongside veterans and two-way players.
