The Los Angeles Lakers are evaluating options to strengthen their roster, and Miami Heat forward Andrew Wiggins has emerged as a potential target.
According to NBA insider Marc Stein on his Substack, the Lakers’ hesitation to take on long-term contracts has lessened in recent weeks. Stein reported that Los Angeles would consider adding a two-way wing capable of elevating the team’s ceiling, and Wiggins fits that description.
Wiggins, 30, was traded to Miami in February as part of a five-team deal that sent Jimmy Butler to Golden State. Since joining the Heat, he has averaged 19.0 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game while shooting 45.8 percent from the field and 36.0 percent from three.
The Lakers already made significant moves this offseason, signing Luka Doncic to a three-year, $165 million max extension and bringing in Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart, and Jake LaRavia. With LeBron James entering the final season of his contract, the front office is looking for the right trade to boost its championship chances.
JJ Redick’s team currently features multiple wing options, including Austin Reaves, Rui Hachimura, and Dalton Knecht. However, Wiggins’ defensive versatility and playoff experience could provide a stabilizing presence in a Western Conference loaded with star forwards.
The Heat, meanwhile, could face decisions about their roster structure after a first-round playoff exit in 2025. Whether they are willing to move Wiggins so soon after acquiring him remains unclear.
Wiggins has career averages of 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists across 11 NBA seasons. He was an All-Star in 2022 and played a key role in Golden State’s championship run that year.
The NBA trade deadline is set for February 5, giving the Lakers time to monitor Miami’s stance before making any move.
