The Philadelphia 76ers reportedly showed some interest in bringing back Ben Simmons last season. NBA insider Jake Fischer revealed that discussions took place as Simmons secured a buyout from the Brooklyn Nets before joining the LA Clippers, per SportsKeeda.
Fischer noted that Simmons still has connections in Philadelphia, including friends and family, which contributed to the 76ers’ interest. He added that Simmons and Joel Embiid appear to have repaired their previous rift.
Simmons, 29, has faced uncertainty about his NBA future following his agent Bernie Lee stepping away from representing him. The move leaves Simmons evaluating whether he wants to continue his career.
Interest in Simmons has also emerged from other teams. Reports indicate the New York Knicks are considering him as a defensive-minded backup guard and playmaker while also evaluating Landry Shamet for his shooting ability.
The former No. 1 overall pick won Rookie of the Year in 2018 and earned three consecutive All-Star selections with the 76ers. He also made two All-Defensive First Teams but has struggled with injuries and offensive decline in recent seasons.
Last season, Simmons split time between the Nets and Clippers, averaging 5.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 5.6 assists in 50 games. He played limited minutes in the playoffs, appearing for just eight per game in Los Angeles’ brief run.
Despite his decline, teams remain intrigued by his size, versatility, and ability to create opportunities for teammates. Simmons has earned over $200 million in his career but is reportedly weighing whether he wants to commit to another NBA season.
His career averages of 13.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.2 assists over 383 games highlight the talent that once made him a cornerstone of the 76ers franchise.
