Ben Simmons’ NBA future is in doubt as the former All-Star weighs whether to continue playing, according to Stefan Bondy of the New York Post.

Bondy reported that Simmons has drawn interest from the New York Knicks and another team but is questioning his desire to remain in the league. Sources told the Post that Simmons, who has earned more than $200 million in career salary, is “not sure if he wants to continue.”

The Knicks are evaluating Simmons for their 15th roster spot, league sources told multiple outlets. His defensive versatility and size make him an option as a backup point guard, though the organization is also considering Landry Shamet for his perimeter shooting.

Simmons’ career has been defined by both accolades and setbacks. The No. 1 pick in 2016, he won Rookie of the Year in 2018 and made three consecutive All-Star teams with the Philadelphia 76ers. He also earned two All-Defensive First Team honors.

However, injuries and declining production have stalled his trajectory. Simmons appeared in just 50 games last season split between the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Clippers, averaging 5.1 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 5.6 assists. He played only eight minutes per game in the 2025 playoffs with the Clippers.

Despite his struggles, Simmons’ defensive impact still draws interest. He owns career averages of 13.1 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 7.2 assists over 383 regular-season games and was once viewed as a franchise cornerstone in Philadelphia.

At age 29, Simmons remains young enough to revive his career. Yet with doubts about his motivation and health, retirement has become a realistic option.
